Lil Luka Dog Walking Job Description
The basic requirements of this dog walking position is to be reliable & honest, you must have a natural fit with the dogs.
You will be entering people’s property & sometimes into their homes to collect the dogs. The highest level of trust & integrity is required for this position
We treat all of our doggie clients with the utmost care & respect, here at Lil Luka Dog Walks our aim is to be fair, fun & on occasion’s firm, with our voice if we really need to be.
You will be required to travel in your own vehicle to the client, where we greet the dog put collars & leads safely on & fitted in the correct manner.
(This is a good time to visually check dog over no limps or cuts etc) Dogs are then placed in vehicle & driven to a local park or beach or board walked area.
If you are required to gain entry to the dog bye use of a house key please leave the key in the door whilst collecting dog then lock house & take key with you.
Clients are walked for a minimum of 35 minutes, from the time you are out of the car & ready to go. Please ensure that you carry pooh bags at all times & pick up after the dog if it relieves itself
Our dogs get walked off leash most of the time keeping in mind your “Safety Zones” that is when to have a leash on your client we only ever let the dogs off to run & play free in a quiet preferably open space or local reserves. Somewhere dogs are allowed to be off lead is also something you need to take into consideration. The beach for example has Summer time dog restrictions on most beaches. There is however dog friendly beaches Churchill by Rothersay Bay is one of these. You also need to be aware of park restrictions as well. Some do require having dogs on lead through the bush etc.
On completion of walk offer dogs a drink of water they will be thirsty after their walk. Towels are highly recommended for the back of your vehicle. We give the dog a good wipe down if wet or dirty.
On return to the home or property return leash to where you found it & ensure dogs also have water provided by the dog’s owner, give the dog a pat say goodbye, scatter a few bikkie treats & calmly walk away making sure you lock house & secure any gates.
All walks should be completed inside the hour including pick up & drop off. I do not mind if you spend an extra 5 or 10 minutes walking the client if you want to however please keep the fitness & exercise level of the client in mind. I usually charge more after 45 minutes of dog walking so the clients should not get use to their dog being walked on a regular longer basis.
This should give you a basic overview of what’s involved in Walking Dogs. There will be more to add but for now this will get you started.
